So whats everyones opinions?

I have one question so far. How do I go about claiming £400 a week housing allowence? Thats double my mortgage!!!!!

20% VAT - gawd sakes, thats a real pisser. Food shopping goes up again.

Why not more tax on fags???

The missus' gets a pay freeze, or redundancy, whichever comes first

Makes it easier for me to calculate my charges on the fly now :D

TBH 20% VAT, whilst a bit of a bummer, wont be noticeable to many people. Many people being those who frequently partake in BOGOF offers on products they dont normally buy believing they got a bargain and then paying 50% more for bread, milk and eggs.

Something needed to be done. Tax rises are never popular, but neither is not being able to get a mortgage or sell your house, or find/keep a job.

Maybe people will finally understand that we cant have our cake and eat it, then again, maybe not :P

don't smoke, drink. don't have a car (yet) So budget don't care. they will do what ever they want. Life goes on.

Housing Benefit (now LHA) is a ridiculous system..

The average price of an x bedroomed house, in that area, is decided by a chap in the appropriate department.
This is what they will pay to qualifying tenants.
If the claimant rents a property that's less than the LHA allowance, they (the claimant) gets the difference (up to a given limit).. it's ridiculous, they are throwing money away.
The £400 a week doesn't apply to all areas..

I actually think it could have been a whole lot worse. . .

20% Vat, no real difference to me, its only an increase of 2.5% or a gestimate of 25p in every £10

Dont drink or drive or smoke, single and dont claim any benefits, dont have savings etc, go for it i say,

For benefit shake up, the benefits should get you by, and not be relied on, child tax credits, never understood that, how about paying less tax in the first place.

I may be better of due to the low income bit, but I can guarantee the VAT will take that all back again. And with the pay freeze, it'll give the private sectors a good excuse to freeze/give a low pay award

Won't that happen - same with fuel?
