Decide what I want to ride to work, On one for hopping antics, 700c commuter for a new time record or one of the pace, for blingy casual cruise in on a sunny day.
Step out the door, turn left, nice Islington, North London road, Georgian houses, park on the left.
End of the road, turn right then left, across cross roads, on through the park.
Exit the park, turn left, council flats, occasional smashed car windows, keep riding.
T-junction head left, join the commuter cowds.
Old street, count the number of geared riders on one hand, count the number of fixie hipsters using an abacus!
Duck and dive, get to the front of the commuter pack, liverpool street station the goal.
Navigate the roads past the station, watch out for witless pedestrians.
Dog leg at the lights, down to Devonshire row, get sworn at by pedestrians who don't realise they are walking on a cycle way! Point out to pedestrians that they are walking on a cycle way, get sworn at some more. Pick up the City AM paper on the fly, wish the always cheerful chap a good day, keep my office manager happy.
Pop out behind Aldgate tube, skirting the city, skirting the east end, hanger right, Tower bridge direction, right and right again.
Arrive at work, feeling I've beaten the morning commute,I've beaten the traffic, I've been beaten by trying to beat the traffic lights, out of breath, needing a mug of tea.... Love it... My London commute!
A tad under 4 miles each way, the key is to go for personal best times.
