I know nothing about DBR or their models apart from Axis was a decent one.

Does anyone own one? There is very little content on here about them and few pictures around.

Does this mean they are rare in a good way or a bad way?

Edited to ad I mean the TT titanium version. As it seems they make steel too

Re:

The top model I believe, the Apex was below it.

I have a 1989 version, white frame with black smoke effect.
There’s a thread on it on here somewhere.

Re:

I’ve been told this one I have is 1994.

Very little info around but I’ve found a few more threads on here from builds a few members have done.

Re:

I've got one, had another which I intended to build but it was a shade too small, but it lives on in Italy now.

Lovely, lovely sandvik built frame, amazing welds, sandvik are/were (no idea if they are still going) reputedly one of, if not the best ti frame builders back then.

Mine has been through a few build variations, though I've never been one to stick to period parts, so have never used the rear canti mount.

I'm currently part way through modernising it (relatively speaking), migrating from m952 xtr to m970 xtr (I was fortunate enough to have a nos set from a garage queen sts I built but never used). Pace rc31 ti forks, spineegy cyclone rim brake wheels, thomson finishing kit, and some purple Paul's brakes (though may switch to m970, unsure yet).

In both guises it wears the non period parts really well. Rides perfectly and is so comfortable. I dont ride much, but I did complete an 85 mile off road event on it and both it and I survived to tell the tale.

My only gripe, is that the cable guides are positioned on the wrong side of the top tube for a good v brake cable run, the main reason I went for Paul's brakes as you can switch the cable mount on the v to the other side, problem solved, if a little expensively.

I have toyed with fitting a suspension fork, as I have a nos 32mm sid world cup with v lowers, but I like the look of the rear mounted brakes on the pace forks a lot. Time will tell...

Whst do you plan on doing with yours?

Does yours have the straight or snaked rear stays?

The one I sold had snaked stays (mine has straight), never quite figured the exact year of mine, 93 or 94 I think. I also finished the job a previous owner had done of removing the canti mount between the stays. Looked great, toyed with doing it on mine, but cant bring myself to do it.

Re:

Thanks for all that info

From what I can see it’s stats are pretty straight. Not sure what that means though. The guy says he bought it in 1994 new for £1200 frame only.

Size wise it measures 19inch centre to Top.

Condition is decent I guess. No dents , or scratches at all. Just a patina I suppose from being left in a garage for many years. I’ll try to clean it up today hopefully. It has black stickers which look original and a sandvick decal.

What size seat post and mech do they take ? Think it had a 31.8!mech fitted and no seatpost or collar. It seems to have a alloy sleeve fitted inside which is a little furry currently.

Were these a brushed finish originally? As I have loads of scotchbrite pads from doing my modern Kingdom. Which direction is it brushed (my kingdom was brushed around the tubes ) but this is hard to tell.

Not sure what I’ll do with it yet. It has Pace rc38 fitted and a few XTR bits but isn’t a complete bike. I actually went to buy something else and not this.

Rampage - my fault I added that part after you replied so blame me

Re:

Ah, the seatpost. That's the most challenging part. I had a ti syncros post on mine, but recently sold it in favour of a thomson. Mainly because I thought the ti post, stem, bars and bar ends were too much ti, and the build needed a bit colour balance and a bit more black.

Seat post size is 27.0 which is an annoying size to find decent posts.

Not sure black decals are original, I've seen a few with white, yellow and possibly red decals (with other colours like borders etc). Mine has black decals but that's because I had them made custom for me by gil_m on here.

Re:

Oh, if you do need a 27.0 post, I have another ti one in my spares box. Kept in case i wanted to restore the mostly ti look.

As for the direction on the brush of the finish, no idea. Mine is a satin type finish but there are areas that have been polished by clothes rubbing as cycling which I need to sort out, but I'd need new decals....

Re:

Looking again mine is a satin finish. Maybe. How’s best to clean it up?

Not sure what I’m going to do yet. May just hang it up once clean and decide. No spare cash for a exotic build currently whilst off work.

Re:

I recently completed my Axis TT build... thread is here, viewtopic.php?f=6&t=400974

I took it on its maiden voyage last week, rode amazingly well, not tested it on anything hard yet but lovely lovely bike, very light and nimble. Original factory was a light grey matt/satin finish that is very hard to re-create, mine has been re-brushed and new decals. Any pics of your frame/frame number so we can try and date it, mine a 1994 we believe...
