the forks sit at £80, but that is still cheep for them in that condition .i would not be suprised if they go for £150. there was a NOS set on american ebay a few month,s back that went for just over £200

The current price is a relative bargain and it is sure to go up. Same dude keeps upping it ever so slightly.

That's kind of pointless IMO to constantly low ball and inch the bids up by 14 microbids. At least knobby put in some proper bids. There might be a bit of intimidation still in play with that double bid but surely others will join in at the current price.

I presume RBers not previously interested in this item aren't going to bid the item up. I do hope we are beyond that. I suspend 'auctions tactics' here and hope others extend a similar courtesy.

I offered a tip or two on 'double bidding' and tried to instill some strategy to those who don't practice these techniques. The seller gets a top price and the bidder still gets the item for a price he is willing to pay, There is nothing childish or nefarious in those tactics.

People who make stupid increased bids should be driven up in their price (except in this hopefully friendly and helpful forum). If they pay $20 more for a part that is $20 less they have for another part. If they constantly overbid they will fall by the wayside and the prices for the rest of us competent educated bidders on RB will lower.

Any suggestion of 'that's not fair' or accusations of childish behavior are silly. In a free market the good buyers and sellers will prevail. The idiots will not. There is no bailout for the idiots in an auction.

It is human nature at it's finest. Only the strong survive.

I've done it on parts I've been outbid on just to make the guy who outbid me twice pay a bit more. I could do it to you if I wanted to be a d!ck.

Now why would you do that? It's an auction site, so being vindictive cos someone outbids you is really childish.

It is an auction strategy. People who buy a lot of things at auctions are familiar with such tactics. Noobs might not understand

No, it's called being a d!ck as you rightly admitted.
What you are admitting to is not the same as a straight auction, but is artificially raising the price of an item to score a petty point over someone who has outbid you. Exactly the same as shill bidding in fact, but with a different aim in mind.

ps. I could report you to ebay for the practice. If I were a d!ck. But luckily one of us isn't.

Uh - No you couldn't report for me for anything. If I win the auction with a bid I pay for it. If I make a losing bid big deal. No eBay rule against that.

Since I am NOT INTERESTED in these forks and CHOOSE to extend some courtesy to the forum it would indeed be dickish for me to use this forum and then practice aggressive auction techniques.

Nothing wrong with placing a bid I am willing to pay even if you don't like it. You don't think people who make rookie mistakes should pay for it. I do. They either learn or they go away. Maybe you want to hold their hands and play Auction Nanny and decide what is a 'fair' bid and what is 'not fair' but your meddlesome nature isn't going to stop me from bidding as I normally do.

In fact I will probably do it more since I know people like you get butthurt over the tactic.

Ah, I can't be bothered. Carry on in your little bubble then.

To the OP, good luck and I hope you get the forks you want without some idiot bidding the price up as suggested by Mr Mature above.

I hope I win the fork too. However I've put a max bid in, if it goes above my max I'm out. I won't be chasing it.

The OP isn't the person who is in jeopardy of being bid up. Once again you don't know what the f@#$ you are talking about. Next time just STFU and spare the rest of us your ignorance.

Classy

Please spare the rest of us comments like this.

I don't get all this tactics on an ebay auction. If someone bids it up for laffs thinking they're teaching somebody a lesson, I doubt it'll work as few will bother to even check auction bids etc and just pay whatever they are told to pay.

Just set a snipe for the max for what you want to pay and be done with it.
