Okay collective... is there a difference between Microdrive and non-Microdrive Suntour rear mechs? I've got 2 short cage ones, one with a Microdrive sticker, one without and they are exactly the same (sticker could've been removed...). I also have a medium cage and a long cage, one stickered MD and body wise they are all the same.
I know with shimano they can be stamped, but can't see anything on these.
Any knowledge out there?

I don’t know if there is a difference, but FYI I use a short cage XC Pro RD (that came with the Microdrive sticker) on a non-microdrive transmission, and it works fine.

As far as I can remember, the only diffs between XC Pro and MD were:
- cranks and rings
- rear cassette
- chain (not that sure a chain even)
- short cage rear derailleur
- little MD stickers on things eh

For what it is worth, I am surprised it didn't do better.

Many of us are. It was quality kit.

The MD BB (BSA)' axle is 115 mm long, normal XC Pro is 125 mm.

My 2 pence' worth wisdom: get as many XC Pro parts as possible, they're worth the hassle. The thumbies/brake levers (champagne hue) quality/weight/performance-wise aren't matched ever since.
