Suggestions on making my kona lighter

Dirt Disciple
Hi guys Im hoping for some constructive criticism, this is my XC bike, it has been modified. Probably to the distaste of others.
Its weighing in at around 12kg which I think is just over 25pounds

Spec:
Kona Lava Dome 1998 16"
Green Chris King
RockShox Reba race dual air TEAM 100mm
Hope XC (silver) front wheel laced to mavic rim
Hope Ti Glide (purple) rear wheel laced to mavic rim
Front XTR ServoWave Hydro brake (on its way)
Rear XTR V-Brake with matching lever
Shimano DX flats
Shimano Hone Triple ring crankset (I really want XTR HT2's)
SRAM (traitor) X.9 shifters
SRAM X.9 front mech
SRAM X.0 carbon rear mech
SRAM PG990 cassette (pink)
SRAM PC990 hollowpin chain
USE Titanium seatpost
Charge spoon Cro-Mo
Thomson Elite X4 90 x 10degree
Bikehut (Tioga) carbon riser bar

I should have some Hope Pro 2s in the post for this, I don't know if this will make the situation worse? :S

No probs with modern equipment on an older frame in my opinion. To go lighter you could put on a rigid fork, ditch the mud guards, use lighter spd pedals?

I wouldn't argue with you on that :D Spot on and it will handle better 8)

Are you fitting the C2's front and rear ?, C2's are great but far
from light, do you really need disc brakes ?, what about a nice set
of V's ?, i've just fitted a set of modern TRP V's on my Orange E3 and
can honestly say they work as well as Maguras, they are very light too.

The forks look too long for the frame, if it were mine i'd be looking for
a set of 98 Marzocchi Z3 BAM's, these will probably be lighter than
the RockShox and will be correct for the year of bike.

Also loose the mudguards and lights unless they are really needed.

chainset and pedals are the killer IMO, I'd run the fork at 80mm too but it should be plenty light. After that your fine tuning, new frame would probably be next and then super pimp wheels.

What bottom bracket are you using? I couldn't believe the weight of the steel axle in my Cindercone, and changed to an ActionTec titanium, smooth as silk and incredibly light.

I agree with kaiser ; the dx pedals aren't light and neither is the hone crank .

I could weigh my dx pedals tomorrow and compare them to some dmr ones if I can find my scales .

Rob , the hone crank is a hollowtec 2 ; the right hand arm has a 24mm tube attached that slides through external bearings and the left arm is splined and split clamped . The external cups are screwed into the bottom bracket shell , the right arm pushed through , the left arm put on and a preload cap stops it moving to the side and then the left arm is clamped in place .

I think the hone uses a steel axle that adds a few grams even over a lx model .

Are you using kevlar tyres ?

If they are d521 rims they aren't the lightest in the world .

You could always do what they did bitd and drill holes in everything!

Only joking....

Seriously the Hone chainset is a fairly heavy piece of kit. You could get something like THIS which will be quite a bit lighter.

:D Far too contemporary for me Perry, still hit the right target though.
