Dirt Disciple
Hello a have my old Kona Lava Dome 1998 as my XC bike but I want a frame that I can put a disk on,

So does anybody know any good frames that would be worth looking at.

Wanted steel or cheap Ti maybe another Kona, don't want aluminium though.

Thanks

You can always have a disc mount brazed on to your Kona. Mikesnowdon on here has had it done recently, lovely job too.

What's your budget going to be?

Lots of really good steel frames out there at the moment reasonably priced (Orange R8 & P7, Charge Duster, Cotic Soul, Genesis Altitude). Kona are doing the explosif again but IMO they've ruined the rear end with some kooky dropouts!

Personally I'd rather buy a high end steel frame rather than budget Ti

I'm afraid you won't be getting much on that budget- certainly not in Titanium. The On-Ones are cheap but pretty pants- heavy and lifeless. £200 will get you a good retro frame but it won't have disc tabs on which will be another £100 by the time you get them fitted, plus paint on top.

I'd say enjoy your Kona for now and save a little longer and get something you really want- you will be much happier in the long run.

If you define you Lava Dome as a good steel frame then getting £200 disc frame shouldn't be a problem.
If you're looking at 853 sort of stuff Rock Lobster 853 for example is £300, though found cheaper if there is a sale on.

Agree with Dr S on the Ti front

Seen a few good steel frames second hand...there was a Duster on here a while back for around £150....I might even part with mine.
