Suggest me a frame. please.

I was looking at the Sanderson Breath as a modern steel frame with classic angles for little over 200 GBP. The upkmarket version in 853 is called "Life" and there's a used 18" in the classifieds right now:

Retrofitting disc mounts on a retro steel rear end may work but 1) it will cost quite a bit by comparison (welder plus repaint?) and 2) the seat and chain stays will not be designed to carry the loads, how hard do you ride?

Enjoy!!

Cheap titanium is a BAD idea. I've got a hole in bank balance to prove it. My bike was a flexy, horrible mess. I bought an Orange Prestige for £50 and that was way better than a £800 ti frame!

In my experience it will work just fine, seat and chain stays on disc equipped frames aren't specified any differently to non-disc versions.

The loads that a rear disc brake applies to the frame aren't that great - all that's needed is the normal brace between seat and chain stays and it will be perfectly functional.

I'm not saying it will not work, there's several such modified frames on these pages already. My question was "how hard do you ride?".

FWIW I'm a bit of a Clydesdale and I have bent a home- made (steel) fitting that was my Rohloff rear disc brake mount. Braking forces are real, and I did not bend it in Alpine descents, I live in Holland after all.

Indeed all that is visible on many disc frames is a simple reinforcing brace triangulating the the seat and chain stay near the disc mount. Makes sense, but then there's also the cost argument.

Enjoy !!

If you want some thing cheap, you can try the Voodoo wanga, it´s a joe Murray desing like the kona.

budget would probably be a maximum of £200, have been looking at on one summer seasons

How long are you willing to wait for a frame ? That's more the question IMO

If you can wait for, let's say 10 years... an IF might be an option by that time :D :D

If you want one in a short term, than I would go with the tabs mounted on your Kona. Especially when you're realy happy with that one.. And it might save some cash on the components that fit right on right now, so the 10 years might become fact.. :P
