Success! After 4 days of treatment, the battle was won this morning. I had to quickly accept that I couldn’t contain the reaction, hence the white powder all over the frame. Luckily it seems the paint underneath is undamaged, which is a pleasant surprise.
Does anyone have advice for cleaning and treating the inside of the frame to ensure it now doesn’t slowly rust from within and defeat the point of this whole rescue mission? I’m planning to use a jet wash to flush out the frame as best I can, and then leave it to air dry. Any recommendations for something I can spray inside to prevent rust? Assuming I may need something more advanced than GT85?
Looking forward to getting this thing back on the road/trails!
