stuff you regret not buying

looking at the boty list and a post about some 2006 rockshox, ive been thinking back to the mid 2000s when i was hunting around for bike bargains, i passed up on some trimmel forks for 80 quid, i thought they looked cool and nice titanium, but adding the double stems in make them weight like 900g, too heavy i thought and let them go. man i was so clueless.

then there was the top end claud butler with full bullseye kit and who knows what else, i didnt at the time, 100 quid seemed like a rip to me...

wondering if anyone else has similar tales of missed bargains and ignorance?

At Ben Haywards, Cambridge in around 1994, they were flogging off loads of Campagnolo Olympus for a few quid in their bargain bin.

Re:

The one that sticks in my mind is a Dekerf with AMP rear end and painted to match Mag 21s and XTR for £120.

XC Pro parts when Suntour Japan went down the drain and all their stuff became rapidly obsolete/suspicious, about from '95-to 98' until the shop stocks dried up...now it's silly ebay/collector prices and it takes ages to gather a full set at sensible cost, doh!

Re:

Back in the dark ages of the forum, around 2007 or so, there was a Yeti that came up for sale...

It had parts made in collaboration by Ringlé and Grafton [I think it was a show bike special] and all the components were anodised in a matching green.

The forum wasn't like it is now, and rather than selling instantly it remained available for quite a while.

The price was something ridiculous like £1k or so.

I was in the middle of a house refurb at the time and couldn't justify the money so tried to haggle with the seller - can't remember who they were, but very nice chap.

They wouldn't move on price as they thought it was already very reasonable [it was] so I had to let it go.

No idea who the seller was, who brought it, and have never been able to find any mention of it on here since, despite repeated searches.

That is the one bike that always sticks out when I think of what I could have bought - others will come around again, that one, at a price I would ever be willing to pay, is unlikely to.

:(

Whoever you are [seller or buyer] please post up some pics of it again!

Re:

That was my remembering too mate, but didn't want to state it in case wrong...!

Any idea who bought it?

Could ask Nick, but doesn't seem very proper really so I shan't!

[@Nick - who bought your old Yeti, and please can I have some pics?!]

:)

Re:

Oh bugger, I've just started crying...

Thanks for that, very appreciated - but more to the point, how the hell did you find it?!

I was looking in the sales thread - I'm sure Nick offered it up in an open sale, not a 'message me if you like it' type affair...?

I remember some larger size pics - maybe they're ones he sent me at the time? Who knows - long time ago!

Still makes me cry though!

Edit: And good to know my memory isn't failing me just yet - that thread is indeed from June 2007!

[As if I could ever forget. Nearly 11 years and still thinking about it...]
