Stuck cranks - Dremel Carnage Inside

So much for the Shimano FC-M290 cranks. They weren't very good stuff to begin with and were rusty from years of abuse. This is from that Cannondale I bought for my son. It looks like I'm going to abandon all hope for almost all of the components it came with. I've got a good bit of LX for it in nice clean shape. I figure if I write off the value of the stuff I already have, he'll be on a good serviceable mid-90's Cannondale hardtail for under $200.

Now for the fun -- Pics! Junkish pinned rings all rusted up. The cranks stuck to the BB. The threads pulled out. Yes, both sides!

Finally had to resort to a little Retro-ingenuity.

How are you going to keep yourself busy for multiple evenings if you don't use an undersized tool???

Like undoing a great wrong by killing something which should never have been born!

ouch!!! you could always have heated up the cranks - alloy expands more than steel and they may have slipped off.

presumably you removed the centre bolt?

also the chainring look serviceable - drill the bolts out and re-use the rings.

Take the crank bolts out then ride em round for a while. They generally just come loose and drop off. Then again wheres the fun in that?
