Can't find a pic of the even stranger prototype, though.

Brilliant lunacy all round! I wonder if there are still people coming up with this kind of thing in sheds around the world?

i do recall seeing that in mtb action or similar. sled!

this thread is great, so many dodgy bikes..so many memories. that first norco is a gem! never saw that before.

i'll need to dig out some old mba mags
there used to be loads of odd things in the ad's posted in there
shed built stuff

Rode the prototype of the Muddy Fox. Let me tell you there's nothing inspiring about riding down a flight of stairs when the back wants to do exactly the same as the front! Scary times!

Sonoma Crosstrak 4" of travel in 1994!! I loved this bike and one day I'll own one when I get round to finding one!

I'd like to see that Outland again, with its complicated virtual-pivot point and CNCd linkages.
Merlin made a very silly showbike or prototype, those Buell pull-shock bikes were wacky too.

Not sure the Sonoma really counts as a dead end - the brand went nowhere, but single pivots (and reverse brake arches) are still with us ;)

More early wackiness:

MCR Descender (from that MOMBAT):

Outland VPP (from First Flight, again not really a dead end as it turned out :) ):
