STI lever suggestions for use with Deore Xt M735 derailleurs

Retro Newbie
Currently am converting a 1990 trek 750 into a gravel bike and am putting full deore Xt drivetrain components on it. Any suggestions for STI levers that will work (well) with deore Xt m735 derailleurs 8spd ?

The RapidFire shifter or do you mean the shifter/brake combo?

Any 8 speed (if you're going 8spwed).

Staying era correct (you can't as it 7 speed)

Shifter only,
But STX/Alivio are nice, late 90s, nicer than any of the early 8 speed shifters.
Then any modern 8 speed shifter.

STI (brake/shifter) then you'll need to be mid/late 90s for 8speed XT to keep a full XT drive train.

What brakes you using?

Or go GripShift as they're great for this use.

Front shifting will be shit unless you have bar end shifters. The cable pull and reach is all wrong.

Aside from that, you can go mad and use a 10spd shimano right hand shifter with just about any SIS mech you want. From early 6spd Deore all the way to the last gen 9spd mtb mechs / 10spd road mechs , it will shift fine

Ha, I was thinking flat bars for a Gravel bike, since that's the current trend, if you're on roadie bars then see above.

Though roadie bars doesn't really make it a Gravel bike.
You sort of need bigger wheels, tyres and discs etc.. It's just a drop conversion like it was BiTD.
