star nut fitting - a poll!

Fit the star nut however you want but please hold the fork in a work stand...

if you rest the fork on the floor and bosh away you can bend the fork dropout. :shock:

i would personally ether buy the tool to do it or take it to a shop...if a jobs worth doing its worth doing properly..... then again i took some forks to be cut off at a shop in central manchester and they came back at a funny angle, might as well messed them up my self...lol

I didn't think it was a good idea to fit a star nut to carbon steerers? You can get things like head doctors or carbon specific devices.

For what it is worth I use an upturned screwdriver (with a metal handle top) and tap the star nut down the tube.

Correct, check your fork manufacturer first. I'd personally use a carbon fork bung.

Please help with my first poll... I've fitted 1 1/8" ahead star nuts successfully more then a few times in the past with an rusty top cap bolt and an old 11/16" socket... but that was on hacks... dare I use same technique on a carbon rigid fork - albeit with alloy steerer?

Yup, I can say the LGF techinque works

Can't say i've had a problem fitting one before like that.

Works for me too. ANd i'm ******* rubbish at the mechanic stuff

I use the force mainly, but have been known to use the hammer method on bank holidays.
