just seen one in the FS section - does anyone even use them? I have a box FULL of them (30+) from builds... the only looker is the alloy one off an '80s Raleigh Wisp - resembles a '50s B-movie UFO

surely everyone is with me here... they are a manufacturers insurance policy against poorly set up rear mechs, and...

they're GASH

:?
You know they're useless
You know they're ugly
So why are you keeping so many :?

Cos we know you're a bloody hoarder

Yeah, they're gash.

BUT it doesn't take much of a knock to put your rear mech hanger a couple of degrees out of line. That can be enough to send the chain over the top of the cassette, and momentum does the rest. Either the chain gets sucked down between the cassette and the spokes, or the derailleur gets dragged into the wheel.

One twisted mech, cracked hub flange, bent cassette sprocket, mangled dropout later, a plastic pie plate looks like cheap insurance.

I'm just talking the market up with a view to offloading my own collection!

But seriously, I could use one to fit a 40-spoke wheel and a 36t big sprocket...
