A couple of days ago I had to take a trip to my local tip/recycling depot to dispose of an old telly. Whilst looking around the back of the yard I came across a pile of old bikes. This one caught my eye mainly because of the splatterpaint colour scheme. Excuse the first pics - taken on my phone camera at work !

At first glance it looked pretty ropey but I decided to liberate it and give it a clean at work that afternoon. If nothing else it would give me something to do on a quiet shift ! After a good strip and clean I found the paint to be in excellent nick apart from a few paint chips. Steel frame has no rust or damage and the paint is nice and thick a fairly good quality. 22" frame which is fine for me at 6' 1" :D

A brisk de-grease and polish and I think it's come up really well. Stickers are a bit worn in places and I presume that the Raliegh sticker on the downtube is missing. I thought i'd chuck a few spare bits on just to make it look like a bike - wheels, bar, chainset and replaced the original brakes.

Anyone provide a date please ? I might build it up with some period bits yet !

Not exotic I know but I like it alot 8)

You did a good job cleaning it! Paint is still very nice after all the years!

No idea bout the year though! :?

It's a 92 I think, poss 93. I remember selling these at Halfords BITD. V slack angles and would today be called a BSO but a lovely resto job you've done there :-)

Well done
And i mean that wholeheartedly 8) .You've taken a bike that could have possibly ended up in a furnace and given it back its life.

This for me is what retro bike is all about

Rescuing older bikes to show they not only still can fire the soul but also give steps to work from and give that satisfaction that it will last another many years

Looks clean chap..nice one

What did you use to polish it with as the paint has come up lovely :D seen a few nice bikes at the tip but they won't let you have them even if you offer them paper with the queens pic on them

looks quite nice

if you cut thru the seat stays you might find that they are solid
i had an amazon that looks the same frame ,it had solid seat stays

Sorry really don't like these. Spent too much time lifting them in a Manchester bike shop BITD.

It's also been substantially upgraded from new.
Brakes and chainset were horrible plastic coated steel things. Wheels were very nasty too.
