my 525 Reynolds frame was 'orrible to ride

Why would you want to put gears on a frame you don't want to ride? :?

The picture makes me want to add gears because it looks very nice

Then after reading the ad, rather than post anew, I edited my original post and added that my 520 frame was 'orrible, because it was. 525 and 520 is the spiritual successors to Reynolds 501 so it could ride well or not depending on tubing and build.

be careful with Halfrauds 'sourcing' you a bike.......what happens is, they go to a shop and pay cash for one wholesale which is then registered to them as a new bike for warrenty reasons, then, when you get it, you are the second owner and thus the warrenty is not valid........I went through this scenario when I got my Kona jake through the scheme......I only got the Jake because they sold them from new.

As for the Genesis, I tried one in my LBS last week and it was noticably heavier than my 2007 Bianchi pista......the CEN thing makes sense.....when did they bring that in?

The flyer is a cracking bike though :D

Fully aware of the process, my company has been running the scheme through Halfords for three years and this is the second bike I've purchased. Halfords warranty the bike for 12 months, I can't really see how that's any better or worse as the first 12 months is always the responsibility of the vendor, not the manufacturer. Anyway, if we're being pedantic, I'm leasing the bike from my company until it's paid for - so I won't be the owner until after the warranty has expired.

I'm not being pedantic.

Merely trying to help you avoid any pitfalls associated with a company who are, in effect, selling you a used bike.

Apologies if I attempted to help in any way

I'm not sure how helpful it is suggesting that the bike wouldn't be warrantied when I have it in writing that it is.

At least by buying it this way through Halfords, I actually have a local store to go to with problems. If I bought it online then Warranty claims really would be difficult.

To be honest, using phrases like Halfrauds makes it sound more like you were having a dig at them rather than genuinely trying to help me!

Anyhoo, you state you were trying to help, so you must have been. It just didn't read that way :)

With respect to your post count, whatever.

Ask around at a few dealers (as I did) and see how valid your written gaurentee of the warrenty will be..........I was having a dig at no-one and trying to give a heads up based on previous knowledge that I have.....Isn't that what forums like this are for?

As per the first line, Whatever

When did post count equate to respect?

I expect the warranty to be honoured by halfords in exactly the same way as if I bought a boardman (within the first 12 months). Even if I bought the bike from my local specialized dealer, the first 12 months of the warranty is with the retailer.

It hardly suprises me that dealers highlight this aspect of scheme, I understand that halfords get bikes from them at a very good price. I believe specialized offer extended warranties on some of their frames (if not all?), so I guess the situation may undermine a brand reputation which would otherwise be defended by extended customer service.

Do you have an example of halfords not honouring their warranty?

Well, the post count thing shows you have hung around for a while without getting chucked off a forum, so you must be a nice bloke who doesn't usually antagonize people!!

I had a colleague who bought a Specialized Allez through Halfords that was set up really badly.......I mean really badly.....nothing tightened up correctly and bits cross-threaded ect.......He took it in to a Specialized dealers in St Albans to get a proper Pre Delivery Inspection/service and they refused to touch it after he explained how he had purchased it......they then explained about how Halfords went about their business and intimated that it was illegal...He eventually rejected it under the sale of goods act, but it took an age to sort while he was still paying for it.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to p**s on your bonfire, I bought my Jake from Halfords in Rickmansworth after to speaking to the manager on the phone for ages.....he was a bike enthusiast who knew what he was doing and it was worth the 1 1/2 drive to get it there....

back to the topic tho, the Langster Steel is a beautiful machine and one that I will have myself in the future :D
Good choice
