Understood.

However, would one have to replace the crown AND steerer, or simply the steerer? ie, does the steerer separate from the crown?

If it has to be the whole crown & steerer replaced, are there any differences in finish between the Mag series, and the FSX? ie. would it look mismatched if replaced with one from a standard Mag series fork?

Cheers,
BB.

steerer

Hi BB
Its the steerer and crown. Theres a few subtle differences between them but any of the mag series silver alloy wouldnt look out of place.

I don't know if these FSX one's are original, I don't know which year of fork they are based around either

The mag series had various types.

You change crown AND steerer, i.e what is in the picture under the FSX fork

The MAG20 would not look good and not recommended.
The second on it's own version is a MAG21 1993 crown.

the later versions would probably go better 1994+

I would have thought the FSX would be based around a 1994 MAG, probably the MAG21 with the SL crown option, but that's not an SL crown from the looks of it (in the fork picture).
SL crown are normally polished ;)

FSX

These are original 1994 FSX Ti/carb forks, with the possible exception of the steerer.
This is approx 1994 fork and the crown is a mag21 based item if not a mag21 itself. Made for Specialized under licence by Rock Shox and based around a mag21.
The Specialized FSX crown wasnt polished.

Was referring to the crown/steerer ;) sorry.

Quite hard and pointless to make a repro. fork

If the steerer crown doesn't look like the one on it's own (no ring around where the legs go through and looks a little smoother, it's the standard MAG21 1994+ one and I think what the FSX came with).
Unless they made earlier FSX forks.

So the stanchions are Alu then ?

The brace, is it a newer one as there is a lack of the cable hanger point and hanger for canti's ?

Sorry turning into a history/extending knowledge things now
