Cue soft jazz,
perhaps a lady with a tray of mini ice creams.

The glow of cigarettes in the darkness.
First time I ever heard of Bristol was in English GCSE. We studied a book called 'Junk' about hippies, heroin addicts, anti-capitalism, crime, prostitution, squatting. No mention of statues. I got an E.
The T.V. adaptation included a - presumably stolen - Vauxhall Nova.
I've always been intrigued by it since and wanted to have a good look round but never had chance to visit besides a couple of bike purchases and working at Rolls-Royce years ago.
Looking back, I would have preferred to have learned about it in History, but we did the battle of Hastings for 2 years in a row for some reason. My teacher was so old I reckon she was there.

I spent a lot of time in Bristol on and off through the 90's. First girlfriend lived there (originally a Clifton lass) and moved about so i got to see all the truly wonderful areas where students typically lived. There and Preston when she was studying. I liked Brizzle back then, but not sure i would now.

The small centre but spread suburbs make cycling ideal for most,
But also the varied geology is great - you've got the cotswolds, the mendips, Somerset levels, the Severn and the Avon valley, and South Wales all within an hours ride.
In this area, great domestic, industrial, religious and military architecture and history.
Tea shops aplenty, and pubs.

You can get out of Bristol on a bike in 15 minutes.

The Plant life!
The Night life!
(also easily accessed by bicycle, although thieves are more of a problem, so the midnight special is a tattypiece by comparison...)

This style of bike is unusual on the road here.

I've now got a little backstory on the gitane

The owner bought this bike new in paris around 45 years ago, then fell in love with a welshman from the valleys.😍

The bike has lived there until she was unable to ride it due to age... no mention of the sh1t brakes and limited gear range😉
