Cue soft jazz,
perhaps a lady with a tray of mini ice creams.

The glow of cigarettes in the darkness.
First time I ever heard of Bristol was in English GCSE. We studied a book called 'Junk' about hippies, heroin addicts, anti-capitalism, crime, prostitution, squatting. No mention of statues. I got an E.
The T.V. adaptation included a - presumably stolen - Vauxhall Nova.
I've always been intrigued by it since and wanted to have a good look round but never had chance to visit besides a couple of bike purchases and working at Rolls-Royce years ago.
Looking back, I would have preferred to have learned about it in History, but we did the battle of Hastings for 2 years in a row for some reason. My teacher was so old I reckon she was there.

I spent a lot of time in Bristol on and off through the 90's. First girlfriend lived there (originally a Clifton lass) and moved about so i got to see all the truly wonderful areas where students typically lived. There and Preston when she was studying. I liked Brizzle back then, but not sure i would now.
