Some Retrobikes passing through Bikeworkshop in Bristol

IYou'd have thought so.
But like the purple/black fade it's looking for its market with one eye on the past.
It's described as a mountain bike in the catalogue, but I would say the market is more urban.

Bought new in 1991, but it's the 1990 model. Rrp£300 i believe

I think the Mean Street is the proper hybrid, the 700 wheeled model in the same year

Thank you for sharing this Dawes catalogue, which actually confirms the year I bought my Dawes Tracker (see page 7), I thought I bought it in 1988, but that was not correct. 🫣

1991 says the receipt.
A reminder to all of us how early European mtb style was heavily influenced by skiing and windsurfing.
Did that purple fade ever look good?

A pre-hybrid
For some strange reason a month ago I had two of these, as well as my Dawes Nomad which is pretty much the same bike. All the same combination of lugged Reynolds steel and all with some strange 1980s colour scheme thing going on.
Here was the little brother of the purple one. I passed that one on to a chap I know in London who does them up as nice urban runabouts.
He sent me a message a couple of days ago:
"The pastor of the elderly guy that lives here just came round looking for him - saw the Dawes finished, rode it up to the corner and the back and told me he'd come and collect it in 2 weeks when he gets back from holiday although we didn't agree a price"

I really enjoy getting updates on the lives of the bikes that I have moved on...much better for then than hanging up in a dark garage or worse ending up as landfill.
