Solidworks half rant

what sort of stuff should i be expecting to clear up?

is it easy to import/export stuff?
i.e is there easy to find tools for it?
im new to solidworks...

Coming from a 3D Max user, i'm only going on what i know. Not too much experience with solid works (well, none) but judging by other 3D packages, that's what usually happens

Importing/Exporting should be easy, either an option in the 'File' menu, or possibly under 'Save As'

Just echoing The Ken really :)

Yes that will work but in most cases you will end up with a solid block that has no editable features.

Solidworks is quite clever in that when opening files it tries to recognise the features used (potentially in other packages) but this is still patchy and hit or miss leaving you with work to do.

If the model is complete and you dont need to make any changes then there is much less to worry about.

The more useful thing may be to get your place of education to update, if they are still on 2009 they should be updating. The 2011 Launch events are currently going on.

yeah thats what i keep saying!
we do pay to go there after all! 30,000 students, theyre still on xp

oooh, very nice Ken. Sort of wanted to do that, but i get the feeling these days, so does everyone, and i'm not sure i could compete, lol.

I went into training and simulation, high and low poly work, Freelancing for ages. Been permanent for a good three years now. Finished working on a VR sim for the Navy a little while back.

you Freelance or studio based?

Studio based - been doing it for 15 years but nothing too highend anymore, modelling and a little animation but I normally do interface design. Last proper game I did was the Xbox Live Arcade version of Perfect Dark. Did some characters, objects and texturing as well as leading up the art side of the project.

The Macretro Tunnocks teacakes were rendered in Maya.

that's pretty cool. Doing characters always scares me, definitely not my strong point

my portfolio is down there in my sig, well some, anyways.
