so i did read about it but want someone in the know to confirm

we use solidworks 2009 on xp at uni. i got given access to download a student copy (2010) so i could do stuff at home. when i went to open this stuff at uni it didnt bloody work!
so i deleted 2010 off my laptop and went to download 2009 but it said only compatible with xp and vista
are they backwards compatible? i dont think so but worth an ask. i thinks its crap to be fair!

and im an autocad man myself! :?

Sounds like CAD though....I can't open 2010 files in 2009 but then again 2009 is the worst version of AutoCAD yet. Hate it.

still using acad 2003

dont like solidworks much ,tho i have to use it sometimes

Love Solidworks, been using it since 1998 (Retro Solidworks!)

You are correct though, previous versions of the software will not open files created in later versions. They give an excuse of not wanting to bloat the software and to limit the problems of new features being incorrectly recognised by older versions. There is some good reasoning to that but to be honest it still strikes of more of a business model than technical.

If any one ever needs any help with it let me know, I have more experience these days than many of the bods on the help lines.

export from one and import to the other, I'm going on my experience with other 3d packages though, not with cad stuff. Does mention it on the web though.
