I've aquired a bunch of different forks with various axle to crown lengths to decide which are best suited. Ideally id like one pair of suspension forks and one pair of rigid forks...

Onza Fly Guy, 425mm
On one cro/mo, 420mm
1995 pace rc35 MXD, 430mm
1999 marzocchi bomber z2 superfly, 440mm
Surly instigator 450mm
2009 Rockshox sid race, 455mm
It started with these '09 Sid forks. They're a very good capable fork, but the 455mm length threw the geometry off too much to make it a comfortable ride.
im looking forward to giving these forks another lap around ashton court soon
And not forgetting the z2 superfly: love this fork, a very tough all rounder. Nuff said
the surly instigator are corrected to 80mm travel and i reckon are about 10-15mm too long for the zaskar. They look good and make a fairly comfortable ride but the riding position feels a bit too reclined. Being rigid at that length doesnt do much for the handling either.
Failing to find a 420mm ac pair of kona project two's with a long steerer, i bought these On one cro/mo forks as an alternative, and they fit just right. With a 220mm steerer tube they raise the handlebars up to the height i wanted without altering the frame geometry. Reasonable weight too
