They always used to snowflake build rear tandem wheels, as they were far stronger, bearing in mind the stress that a Tandem has to take, with a lot more weight and twice as much drive. Not as pretty and a b*gg*r to clean, but well strong.
I have built many of these over the years and would advise against building a disc one.If you have a snowflake on the rear on both sides then when you pedal you feel the hub rotate before the rim moves so it feels spongey. If you do this on the front it will feel the same under braking. You could go for a single twist which could also be called a half twist as these then behave just like soldered on tied spokes. Also the guy who suggested ti spokes, BAD idea. I tried for a customer once and broke about 10 spokes tensioning it. Not good. But i still love these wheels.....
