Snowflaked wheels.

My first Snowflake was the absolute nuts !!!!

Ringle Suppa Bubba Hub in purple ano, DT Swiss of course and a Sun Ringle purple rim. Same stuff Tinker Jaurez used to use on his Team Storm !! (Apart from the pretty snowflake of course!)

Im a heavy rider and im well aware of how extreme my riding can be, yet I never had any issues with wheel strength or constant re-trueing !!

Give me another, I love em !!!!

Surely the Mutha of all Retro wheels would be a purple hub laced to sunset rim with Ti-Dye spokes in snow flake pattern with alternating black green red and yellow nipples to match your rasta mechs.

Although I would feel sick to the pit of my stomach at the sight of it!

I used to make snowflake wheels regularly for the the bike shop i worked for in Yeovil.

great looking wheel and never had one come back.

only ever did the drive side on my own wheels and never had any issues with them.

wonder how many people are still runnig them? :D

I think I disagree; I also like Crow Feet spoke pattern - rotational rigidity of traditional cross spoke with torsional rigidity of radial.

And not quite so obvious as snow flake but different enough to be noticed if you look.

Only problem is you can only do it on 36 hole hubs and rims so heavier than 28 or 32 spoke.

I've built a few of these but, like you say, they look fairly ordinary at first glance.

You can actually do a crows foot hybrid on a 32 hole rim. It consists of 4 sets of crows feet with a single radial spoke between each set.

As to snowflake lacings: they look nice but they're a pain in the arse. If you break a spoke it's a hassle to replace. Strength-wise they're not as good as a traditional 3 cross imo.

Let's see pics of what you all still have!!!!
Best I can do at the moment without getting the camera and bikes out.
This was taken in 1994 and is still in action, albeit without the blue nipples and a new rim.
And it's a 32 hole rim too...

Just sold mine to Nobby the sheep. Am thinking of getting a new one built with a disc hub on front. Not sure how good that would be.
Gotta say they still look so cool!!

Fresh Snow!

Inspired by this thread thismorning, I thought I would have a go. Not sure how srong it would be though on those puny mavic 530, alloy nipples and standard DX hub! good job i am not heavy. I think they definatly look better with a fat annodized Hubs
