Re: Re:
Cheers! If cables are fairly unused they'll only need a clean and lube may be. If it's not them then it's somewhere in the mechanicals of the drivetrain. If the chain/correct chain length, cogs, rings, jockey wheels are in good condition, and cassette/BB/cranks are nicely tightened up, then the culprit may be the Shimano M735 XT rear mech.
I had early 90's DX kit on at one point and the rear mech seemed sloppy and kept letting me down with the chain slipping whenever I needed to pedal hard. One day, the damn thing exploded all over the road in traffic :x
It's now in the 'museum of broken parts' and since then I've been running XT M772 rear mechs without any fails – totally sweet

During a routine strip, clean and grease of the bike, I discovered why – the freehub had shattered into four pieces, bearings rolling everywhere. The cassette had been the only thing holding it all together
Strip, clean, replace/renew any suspect parts (if necessary), lubricate and rebuild. A process of elimination will sort things out. It's like turning it on and off again![]()
Ha thanks!
