Sleep apnea anyone?

Old School Grand Master
For years I've been tired, never slept well but the hours weren't too bad

but last year in the states I had 2 t.i.a.'s and another whilst back in the u.k.

I'm not super trim but not a huge heffa lump so my latest doc appointment, she decides to test me for disturbed sleep, sends me to papworth for a overnight monitor wear and from that they send me as an overnighter/most of the next day sleep over

next morning they tell me that I stop breathing on average about 20 times an hour, this in turn may have weakened my heart so might explain the tia's so now a heart mri is due

Now I'm okay with this as finally we seem to be getting something to aim for and sort something out

Dvla is a worry for me now as apparently if you drive wether for a living or for pleasure then your supposed to inform them, they then suspend your licence until you've tried the darth vader mask at night and a doc confirms there has been an improvement

has anyone had this problem..sleep apnea and how did it go for you? and any advice

I have bad sleep apnea as my nose has been broken so many times. I MUST lie on my right side or with my mouth wide open on my left side but never on my back. It's a pain but you get used to it.

I've got a mate who has to do the vader mask. He said it was weird at first but got used to it pretty quickly and it has improved his life hugely. I don't imagine it's great for the moments after getting intimate with his wife but I haven't gone down this line of questioning with him.

I've had it for a few years now. I need to wear a mask and use a CPAP machine, but even though I usually only sleep 5 hours a night anyway, well, in work I do, It has made a difference as I used to get very drowsy sitting at the PC at work. I don't use it every single night though.

All I need to do is shift about 3 or 4 stone and my neck will slim down again.

Also, be careful before declaring it to the Doovla, I've heard they can immediately revoke your licence while it takes 8 weeks or so to prove to them that you are ok to drive. On the other hand, if they do that you'll be cycling to work every day so will lose weight anyway.

Thanks for the input chaps

I heard about dvla suspending your licence until the docs can prove there is no risk, I don't own a car so that's not to bad

The cpap is something that is going to put more women off sleeping with me than my face

True the weight is a small issue as I'm only about 2 stone over so shouldn't take long to shift

Give it a bash and see how it goes

If your technique is to actually go to sleep, with women, then you are doing it wrong. Unless of course, you find someone who is turned on by the whole "breath control" thing in BDSM.

Erm, thats what I've heard anyway. I don't know myself.

Been tested for it in hospital. Inconclusive. :? Probably the most uncomfortable two nights of my life hooked up to the apparatus. But according to the wife I stop breathing for anything up to two minutes when asleep . Must get her to stop holding the pillow over my face :o
