Skinny tyres for 27 1/4 rims?

Specialized used to make Turbo and Turbo S folders in this size. It was some time ago though but some may turn up - if you're very lucky.
 
I've thought about the tyres, and think that the best strategy is to wait until my current tyres wear out, then look at my best option for an upgrade.

I don't think it's worth replacing the rims until my current rims wear out. This is not meant to be my last ever bike, but something that I can use and learn more technical skills on. E.g. I've only recently started replacing my own spokes. If I could learn how to true wheels, then a future skill step might be to replace the current rims with thinner rims when the current ones wear out. Would that be an realistic aim?

Wheelbuilding is easier than people make it out to be. I got it right second go with nothing but Sheldon's site, cheapo spoke tool, and a hammer. Didn't use a truing stand either, just span it in my hands and later on the bike itself. Hardest bit is getting the pattern right.

Well, I have just fitted a pair of the Sava 27x1" tyres (Made in Slovenia) to the Alesa rims of my RO Harrison. They seem to be pretty good, they are white walled which will hopefully dull down a little but they aren't too garish. The tread is nicely er.. discreet and the clearance at the chainstays is much improved; in all they look much more appropriate. I'll have to wait until the weekend to see how they ride and will update, but so far so good!
