There was a big gap of developments for me say like 1993-2003,

I remember 'micro drive' coming in not sure how micro it got but it makes sense doesn't it, less weight more clearance...?

OK so some of the dirt jumpers are using micro, i'm sure, small chainrings and small rear cogs, i might be wrong, perhaps just easy gear.

Anyway my Commuter is running A 44 chainring and 16T rear cog, i was gonna get a 15T till I realise that the chainring is tired and ramped
:? :?: WTF no wonder chain fell off and bronco'd me off, so considered a 46T chainring instead of a 15T rear so;

44 --- 15 is same as 46 --- 16 math wise yea, am I right that far? well how about micro driving it, is that possible?

new can of worms cos 104BCD 46T' are not that popular, so reet now anything goes, new cogs, chainrings, cranks whatever, shoot with any ideas or comments.

Cheers 8)

damn you i was just going to go to bed and this is something i feel strongly about :lol:

i too ride 44-16 nice isnt it :D

this is my prefered calculator , i know i average 13mph on the road and with that i can work out my average cadence , with that i can mess around with theoretical gears and have learnt that sing a 42 instead only loses me 1/2mph which ill gladly take for a quicker uphill

oh and 12.5 for example doesnt exist as .5 isnt a possible tooth , but you knew that already

as for " micro drive " only do it if you dont actually spend much time pedalling :lol: look at a track bike and itl still be using a big ring and big sprocket on the rear :wink:

the trick based sides of bicycles can get away with it because they need the clearance and they never really pedal anyway

for gearing

ill say that even though george french is a bmxer he is a proper shefield engineer and really knows his stuff

micro gearing tech , again bmx based but still sound mechanical theory

after reading this lot i think you will come to a nice conclusion :wink:

I've got 28", or 700c wheels or whatever, and its near all flat here so its not so hard, before I bought a cog I tried to put up with the 15 on the cassette, so thats where the 46t chainring instead comes from. I think I have just found a good one too. cheers

wondered if micro would be a step further but to do teh math ya never gonna get the exact combo are ya? ;) cheers top guys, right better read up those links now. :idea: 8) :)
