Plenty of very nice looking "new" builds but what about the "old" builds??

They just keep on working, so no need to change them. Just oil the chain and go... :)

As for dropbars on a mtb, what Shiggy says here is the best explanation I've read http://mtbtires.com/features/bikes/why_dropbars.html. But then it's bound to make sense to me because I was riding mountains on a skinny wheeled SS dropbar bike before we had such exotica as mtbs. At least now I've learned it's ok to use a smaller chainring than a 48 :)

Edit:

Er, oops, forgot. That's what I have on my Ti Pompino...

Thanks. I call it my Brian MacLeod™®© road bike!

In that case it won't see much road. :)

You'll finally understand the meaning of temptation.

Go for a road ride, see an interesting track, oops...

Next thing you have no idea where you are, but where ever it is, it's better than where you were going. That's a reasonable description of one of my rides - I think Jamie will agree. :)

I'll have you know that KM is five years old now. It's practically vintage!
It's got a retro look to it though which I find pleasing and something that I tend to go for with my newer bikes too

Re:

I'll try and redress the retro balance on here with a pic of my "girls bike" which I've nearly got finished today.

Well, I for one am liking the shit out of that!
 cheers it's coming together pretty nicely, not a pristine resto but it's got a bit of heritage this one so leaving it as is.

Aye, not bad for a girls bike Col.

Got the monkey finished and took it out for a wee ride. The bike performed faultlessly. Shame I can't say the same for myself. I think it will be a while before I am back to full strength. :( Still, it's a good excuse to keep trying.

And for the first ride the tarmac count was suitably low Brian.
