Was out on the road bike on Saturday morning and after about 3 hrs in the saddle I got the worst stabbing pain in my left shoulder and it would not go away... anyone had this happen to them, any idea what may have caused it ?? haven't had a recurrence since but makes me think there might be something wrong with the bike set up.... any ideas ??

It's a bit obvious but after prolongued RC31 use, my shoulders lock up and hurt like a b*stard.

Chiropractor asked if I'd done anything noticably differentr since my last visit and I said...

"ditched my SID's"

he suggested putting them back on and hey presto...all was good.

Not much help on a road bike though - sorry mate

Hurting again today after a lucnhtime swim so probably not bike related. Trip to the physio in order I think ...

I don't mean to scare.. But.. My brother tore his Rotator Cuff last year and it sounds kinda the same..

Either way, my hat is off to you sir for addressing it so soon and making the trip to the Physio!

Are you riding with hunched shoulders and / or a rounded back?

Might sound funny, but when I saw pictures of me on a bike during a bike fitting it's amazing how you look completely unlike your mind's eye

Set the bike up on a turbo, and take a pic using the delay on a camera (or the Mrs to do it - works best if you're spinning on a turbo and not thinking about your body position).

When on a long road ride try to keep your shoulders "down" into their sockets so they're away from your ears, and use your core muscles to keep you supported, rather than loading through your shoulders / arms on the handlebars.

Bugger, that's mighty hard to explain .....
