And with smaller wheels you drop the BB a bit which can be noticeable.

I got rid of my last 27 wheel bike because of the faffing around sourcing parts and making usable for everyday

Riding an older bicycle shouldnt end up as being a punishment!

What surprised me when I built up my Witcomb (with a 27"-700C conversion) was that the BB was actually higher than my Litespeed. 700C only sits 4mm lower than 27", BUT BBs were generally lower in those days before product liability lawyers started to worry about pedal strikes.

I'm wavering about selling my Litespeed (sort of retro, 1994) and just keeping my 1979 Witcomb. It's just more versatile with mudguard clearance - in fact the swap to 700C even makes enough space for narrowish 32C CX tyres.

Here's a couple of the images I've got. I'll do a thread once I've got it.

I really hope you are just going to give the paint a wash and then a good coat of wax to protect as it is fantastic

That's my plan - i told the seller this and he thought I was mad :D

I'll look into the best way to do it - I'd like some of the original zing of the colours to be there but not loose the patina. There's bare steel to protect too.
