shimno 600 bb replacement?

I am sure their is a UN54 115mm BB and I have just checked Madison and they have them in both English and Italian threads.

I think I have a new boxed UN54 115mm in English thread. Can get the Italian version too.

thanks for your suggestions.
I had seen the un54 68x115. 2 questions arise;

1. Does being 1mm shorter axle make a critical difference?
2. Does it have symmetrical axle like my current 600ex does?

The answer to Q.2 seems to be that no-one really knows. I've search the web high and low, not even our mate Sheldon can shed any light on it (he gives the axle pertrusions for cup n cone bb''s but not for sealed ones)

The 600ex crankset I have, was designed for use with 68x116 symmetrical bb, that much is certain... does anyone know....help...I'm on a wheel of confusion (would a wheel of confusion have a symmetrical axle?)

Will 1mm difference be a problem? No, I don't think so - if your cranks and/or rings are so close to the chainstays that 1mm will cause them to foul then the axle is too short by quite a bit.

Regarding symmetrical axle on those sealed units I think they are but can't be sure - why not just get one and try as they aren't too pricey and can easily be sold on if it's no good.

The answer regarding the symmetry of Shimano UN54 sealed bb's is that it varies according to axle length, some are symmetrical and some are not. The 115mm one I need is symmetrical so I'm good to go.

I'm hoping now I will never have to type the word 'symmetrical' again.
