Peugeot bottom bracket query

Hi. I've picked up a Peugeot country 100 hybrid thing. The bottom bracket, even after servicing the bearings, cups and spindle, is clunking. I want to replace it for a sealed, Shimano squared tapered BB.
Trouble is, the shell width appears to be 70mm. As the bike isn't that old, I'd be surprised if it had french threads? I reckon it has bsa threads? The drive side is of course stuck at the moment with nothing to grip, so I won't know until I unscrew it which threads it actually has.
Provided it is bsa, should I go for a 68mm or 73mm BB?
If it turns out to be french, what are my options there?
Thanks

prior to gradually going ISO Peugeot used some CH

good to keep that in mind as a possibility

cycle certainly "appears" late eno' that would expect it to be all ISO

~'83-'84 was the time when the big french makers began introducing ISO, in the early time some "mixed" cycles were produced which were part metric and part ISO
