as some of you know I'm working on my Sniperworks website and with help from you and a lot of google, magazines and brochures I build my website to write and show all about Shimano groups/parts and Rock Shox
Now I just got confused.
I found a picture of a XT M735 front derailler with a tension screw, like the M900 has. But ... I also found pictures of the M735 derailleur without them.
Some have them and some don't. Where did I miss something????

Here they are: Both are M735, both downpull.
On top with tension screw on the bottom connction of the inner cage. Picture below without.

Help me!

The top one is the one I know, and DX being the same adjuster style.

The bottom one, mislabeled or is there a shot of the number on it ?
I woud say it was an FD-M732

The M732 is a version I haven't seen one with the adjuster at all.
Only in the toppull, like the M736 (only toppull)

This is the one with adjuster, incl typenumber:

Just remebered, I had (or have) a deore DX sti set: marked as: ST-M650.
But I haven't seen a brochure of website mentioning ST-M650. Only ST-071 or ST-070. So, I think sometime there are just preproduction, OEM parts or racer-parts in between.

I'm gonna take a look in my stash tomorrow, see if I have any XT FDs with out the adjuster and what the M numbers are...

I've not noticed the adjuster on any of my m900 mechs, but I'm sure it is there. What's it for?

You can tune the angle of the cage by rotating that bolt head

I've never had to twiddle one... But that doesn't mean I didn't have a go

given the above i would guess the none adjuster version is a switch over from m732, it looks the same, not sure if any cage ramping alterations where made. then possibly it was added.
the adjuster is not to alter angles or similar. it has a simple function of altering the tension on the spring, much like the rear mech one at the time.

it'll be either 91 or 92 this adjustable return spring was added

I've had a look

Well I've had and refreshed my memory on what the doohickey does

So the only non adjuster XT I found was M732

No M735s without one found

I twiddled again and have found the adjuster causes the bottom of the cage to move when you twiddle it which is why I dismissed it as having that function

behind the bolt head is an eccentric cam, this is what the return spring for the mech sits against

So rotating this can can significantly alter spring tension, the default is minimum, which as Fluffy says is the purpose!

The movement in the cage is marginal and just a side effect so I'll take the hit there and put a redface on
