Shimano Deore XT M720 cable changing problem

Hi All, as some of you know I have restored a 1996 Saracn Kili Comp.
I have yet to change all brake and gear cables. and this is the problem as my levers are Shimano Deore XT M720 which are an all in one unit that combines rapidfire shifters and brake levers.
There is no dust cap on them like the newer ones for which to change the cables. I was wondering
if anyone had a detailed idea of how to change all cables or scan showing a breakdown of the components to help me do this please.
Many Thanks
Andy Richards

Re:

M720...? There's no such thing. If it's an XT shifter from that period then it's likely an M737, M738 or M739 STI unit.

The 737 and 738 have a small round cable cover like on most modern shifters.

I assume then that you have am M739 shifter which has a cable cover held in place by two tiny cross head screws. These are very easy to round out unless you use a high quality screwdriver that fits correctly.

Here's an exploded diagram. It's the parts indicated with a number 2 that are what you are looking for.

Hi Paul. Many thanks for the diagram, after taking mine apart
and looking at the diagram discovered mine was the M739.
All cables now fitted and working perfectly :)
Thank You once again
