Shimano BR-M738 V-brakes?

Anyone knows the story behind BR-M738 brakes? They are similar to the 739 "first" V-brakes, the only difference is that in 738 the link bars are "bone shaped" and in 739 they are "hollow". Did the 738 go to market already in 1995, as the 739 is shown in every Shimano catalogue (debut 1996), while the 738 seems to be quite rare and does not appear in any catalogue. I think it was just one of Shimanos running changes. From the hollow to the dog bone, perhaps an attempt to stiffen the rattly linkages or just slightly cheaper to produce. I have sets with both types of link bars and they are all marked BR-M739.

I've got a few of the rebuild kits for these/xtr v brakes. Some are hollow, some the solid black variety. None mention m738 though. I always thought that m739 were the first xt v brakes.

Me too, but this add, where the photo is from, stated that there is both 738 and 739. Maybe a mistake then.
