Shimano 1055 rear mech. Great cond £15 posted. SOLD PP

This mech doesn't quite have enough reach since I bought some 8 speed wheels so I'm going to sell it and buy the 8 speed 1056 version. I'd me more than happy to swap for the 8 speed version if anyone is up for it - otherwise, I'd like £15 including post.

As you can see the paintwork is really nice with barely a mark on it. The mech has no play and the original jockeys are barely worn at all.

All in all, a really nice bit of kit which hasn't seen a lot of use...

Pics in a minute due to computer woes...

Are you sure it won't work with 8 speed?

Yes, I'm sure. Not enough travel with the limit screws fully adjusted.

My DS dropout is pretty thick and slightly offset which doesn't help so the derailleur doesn't quite sit on the large inner cog when required. I also tried using a spacer on the cassette but then the cassette was too close to the frame.

I don't use the large cog that often but I like things to work properly when I need them to.

I don't want to start bodging things to get it to work when I can just swap it out for the correct mech.

Maybe that's why Shimano, in their wisdom, produced the 1056 8 speed version?

Re: Shimano 1055 rear mech. Great cond £15 posted. Swap 8s?

that's strange because there's usually more than enough movement for a 7 speed mech to work with 8 or 9 speed cassettes. I'm pretty sure I've had a mech exactly the same as this one working with 8 speed.

Shimano are very wise when it comes to engineering things, and even wiser when it comes to marketing them

your mech looks in great condition though, and at a very decent price!

lol. Ain't that the truth. They're even worse now IMO.

It's only a couple of mm off at most so the little bit of extra travel the 1056 supposedly offers should be enough. I blame the design of dropout on my frame.

I could use a more modern mech but I really like the aero cages on these and the 600 model.

Sure I ran that exact same mech with a 9s cassette

Been through this already. It's only a couple of mm out but I've just bought a RD-1056 so I'm hoping that it will give me the extra couple of mm travel I need.

You guys sure your rear mechs were 1055s and not the 1056 version as they look virtually identical? I've just received my 8 speed 1056 RD - it fits perfectly and has loads more scope for adjustment than the 1055. :?

Anyway my 7 speed version has sold and is on it's way to a new home. :)
