Re:

You can tell by the number of click-stops on the right-hand shifter (should have a little D-ring that you can turn from "Friction" to "Index"). But if they came from an 8-speed bike that's the other way to tell....!! I'm looking for 7-speed unfortunately.

Thanks
Richard.

Re:

I'll take the brakes providing the threaded stud is long enough to go through my forks, any chance of a measure on them please?

The levers Shed has pictured are 1055's which are 7 speed. (well, mine certainly are anyway) There should be a little 7s symbol printed on the RH shifter but this can rub off.

If they were 8 speed, I'd be interested myself but I think it was only the 1055 brifter that came in 8spd.

They are a bit of a bargain IMO as those shifters are usually at least £15 on eBay.

Re:

Looks like I've talked myself into buying the 105 shifters then if they are 8 speed and still available. PM on the way.

I have to stop playing around with old bikes.

Re:

Ah, they are 1056 8 speed shifters. I didn't even know they did that shifter with 8 speed indexing but they are just what I need...

Should have checked VeloBase first.
