Shill bidding?

I think I am being Shilled.......

Found something that I am actually desperate for on ebay and put in my max bid (ok, have a few quid extra in mind) and sat back to wait.

24 hours pass, then in the space of about 14 minutes, 19 bids roll in from just one bidder, at small incremental increases, that suddently stiop at exactly my max bid... but not over... so I am still the highest bidder.

It feels like someone is trying to panic me into increasing my bid

What do you think?

the sxtrc shifters do well too...

Do you mean STX-RC? Just put my old ones (ditched in favour of Sachs Neos twist-shifters which I'm chuffed to bits with) on eBay so am hoping for a useful bit of pocket money based on that advice. :)

No worries about the typo. But 40 notes for the pair? Sounds promising - STX-RC isn't even near top-end stuff, lots of steel substituted for alloy in mechs and chainrings and nutted rather than allen fittings on the derailleurs. Don't get me wrong though, the STX-RC bits I had on my MTB worked just fine and are still seeing good use on a mate's commuter bike.

as a foil to this i recently got some silver lx ones for ten quid posted but that was on here a month ago or so..i guess some one may have really badly wanted them ....even so i have noted them fetching much higher prices then expected...(just the shifters mind you and perhaps the chainset sometimes)

Doesn't look good, I don't bid when it's a private listing.
Not ever.

UncleGsif it does look as though you are being shilled.

I bid incrementally sometimes (although not quite as ordered as that) in an effort to find some one elses max. Can be revealed when you put on/near/just over their bid (normally in pence) as to what they have bid due to the ebay minimum bids at certain price points.

For me tha can be any time and i normally leave it and come back and have another go if i really want it.

That looks quite pre meditated though.

And say what?, I doubt they'd be concerned, I doubt ebay would be concerned.
You could politely point out that a sale to the "other" bidder is unlikely to go through and offer them a reasonable but reduced sum.
You never know.
