Hey Folks,

Bought a frame to build up into a cheap SS off roader.

Took a punt and bought the following (NOS) off of the bay for £40 delivered.

After a discussion and an earlier thread:

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28274

I'm happy its a Saracen Kili - what i'm even happier about is there's a good chance she's 853 (or tange prestige) Stevek has an 853 one!

Not too bothered either way!

Anyhoo - she's funking light for her size (19'') and comes equipped with Ritchey droupouts, BB is stamped 97.

So tis obviously going to be the case that i spend way to much money building up my Cheap  SS :D

What happened to Saracen in recent years? Trying to get the 'kids-on-da-street' market I suppose. That is a nice frame! Worthy of gears I think...Go on you know it makes sense.

I do have a Sram X0 rear mech and X9 shifters going spare - no wait stop................

Only joking it would be 950 XTR :P

No, No she WILL be singlespeed!

You scored well my friend! Who'd have thought you could get a NOS 853 steel frame for £40?! Really nice looking frames aren't they?

 It is nice to look at

Cant wait to get evil on it a$$ though - see you at MM (although not to compete  )

Saracens of that vintage rock!

FACT!

They really were nice bikes, rode really well with a lovely whippy feel.

As to "What happened to Saracen"? It was a pair of brothers raping the business for all it was worth churning out dross. Same problem happened to Raleigh and it meant that an entire generation never wanted to buy one.

If you start off on a bike when young, there's a chance that brand loyalty would keep you with the brand. If you start on something as shite as a Saracen Raw, then you'll either never fall in love with riding, or else you'll switch brands as soon as you can!
