Selling up and leaving the hobby - Your failure experiences?

To update this slightly to where I'm at currently.

Ive not sold anything , but i have stopped myself buying several things I would like.

I've been doing a little more messing around with specs again on full bikes trying to reignite the spark. Ive also been doing a little bit with Instagram again which has gone well (110k views in last 30 days)

Im hoping that my next project comes back from paint soon, as that may help too.
I reached the top when I finished my Lightning a few months ago. At that point I had 10 or so other frames I wanted to build, piles of forks, wheels etc, all waiting, constantly looking for bits or bikes to get the bits for them. I finished the GT after amassing the parts for almost 10 years. I rode it once off road in June and it was one of the worst rides of my life. Now it hangs on my garage wall still covered in the same dirt and while I don't seek to sell it, I have no attachment to it at all. After all that, I'm now accepting that this may be the time to focus more on less, rather than less on more.

I am starting to realize this too.

Would rather keep the ones I ride the most and focus on minor upgrades here and there than keep expanding and ending up with many nice bikes that I have very little time to ride.

Of course, that's just one way of seeing the whole retro collection thing but if there is not enough time to ride them and can't tell rigs apart as to how they ride then someone can make better use of them. 🤓

I think you should ride them even if they are exspensive if its only showing off on a saturday riding through town (something i never do ) i swap mine bike every couple of weeks and use as run arounds alright one a clockwork a pace f2 and a klein mantra i think theres nothing better knowing your riding a high end bike or driving a nice or motor bike probably a bit vain but you all know what i mean

I agree, focussing on less is so much nicer.
One ebike,
One Ti soft tail ( I just cannot call a “Real” bike “Acoustic”)
One nice acoustic guitar,(Acoustic is ok for guitars)
One banjo,
One nice watch ( Clockwork)
One very nice wife
One Dog.
Sorted

Not trying to convince people to sell up, its their journey. Just my thoughts.

I've gone from 23 (approx) bikes down to 2 rideable, 1 mothballed and 2 frames just in case. I wish I'd done it years ago (it would have saved me a fortune 😪)

I can now focus on the few I have 😎

I’m still deciding what to do. Still not ready to sell up I feel , and I still enjoy looking at them still.

I’ve stopped adding more bikes currently even though there’s been a few things I’d like. I didn’t realise how much time and money I spent on them until I’ve stopped 😂

I’ve had an offer for the full GT collection which isn’t silly low but I feel I would simply split them up to maximise return. A few bikes already have people’s names on them for first refusal anyway

Another option I’ve considered is just keeping frames and selling the rest.

For the first time since being 17 I’ve not got a fast car or motorbike in my life. I kinda miss them , but not the costs and hassle. So on one hand the retro bikes can fill partially this gap , but on the other I bet if I did sell up I’d not care.
