Seeking suspension forks for 1990 Cinder Cone

so what did you actually pay for it then mate ? as i'd of offered around the £270 mark ..

You're not far off. It was up for £340 and I got it at £300. Well, technically my wife did - it was a birthday gift so didn't cost me a penny!
I figured these old Cones are very rare, especially in such good original condition. It was the quality of the paint that did it for me. I'm amazed it's in such good nick. I didn't want a restoration project because I imagined getting original decals would be an arse of a job, let alone trying to replicate the paint scheme on a shoddy cheap bike, so basically I paid a little more for the present owner's excellent work.
I'll still make some changes to the bike (see thread above about suspension) but I'll keep it period. Now wishing I didn't sell the Manitou a decade ago too!

One of our colleagues on the forum has already PM'd me about a Mag21 fork he can restore and refresh for me so I'll go for that. But I'll still keep my eyes open for the Manitous, just to own them for old time's sake!

I find the splashback (theones fitted) fine untill it gets very muddy, even then I can ride them, just abit slower.
You all must ride funny or have no rad skillz ;-)
Keep the tyres as they are new and not old original ones and a perfectly fine tyre. Run them at 30 to 35 PSI (ish depending on wait an if they are 1.8 or 2.1)
As for smokes, not my favourite tyre and didn't like the dart as it always washed out, could never get it to grip on corners.
I was a Pshyco person and IRC Geo Claw in the end.

The image of the Manitou FS in my earlier post turns out to not be the one I owned, I'm afraid. Some judicious research has shown that that FS is (probably) a different build. Seeing it on Instagram recently with a link to a previous owner prompted me to PM him (he's on this forum) and he told me it's history, which could possibly tie in to the known history of my old FS but it probably doesn't.
I then rummaged through my old photos from back in the 90's (before digital images) and found this...
So this is my actual build from back in the day, which still looks kinda cool anyway. What's remarkable is the similarity in components between the two, hence thinking is was the bike I owned back then.
So sorry if I inadvertently mislead anyone!
