See you in Scotland

Looks like it's some sort of festival that doesn't include any riding. Maybe if I was totally jaded on Scotland I would have passed on the opportunity.

I'll only be in the country for a few days, just time to get there, shake hands, test a few single malts, and start back. I love the relay idea, but it looks as though I will have to find another flight. Anyone for the leg from Glasgow to Fort Bill?

I'm sure Gary Fisher must know what he's doing

Hahahahaha...

Haven't met the man, have you?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Gary gets so many frequent flier miles that it's no trouble springing for one of his old mates to accompany him to a party. Doesn't cost him anything, and the miles just keep piling up.

I wonder why there are no "frequent flier kilometers."

It's a Mountain "Life" festival - Climbing, Walking, Skiing, Ice Climbing, MTB.

Feburary is our peak skiing season but I wouldn't bring your own skis, hire them here as there are usually quite a few rocks sticking through if any snow at all.

In the Glens it will be wet and windy and very cold. Fun for those that love that sort of thing. Still I've not seen Klunkers yet so it might be worth the trip. Let me know of any planned outings. I could probably make Thursday or Friday.

Right...

SWMBO may have convinced me to take three days off work and drive from Heathrow to Fort William with a Mr Rider/Kelly in tow (subject to consent of course!)... The showing of Klunkers is on my 31st birthday, and let's be honest, how often does an opportunity for a road trip of this coolness and magnitude present itself?!

Mr Kelly, if you'd like to drop me a PM, maybe we could get something sorted...?

I have received this reply from the Festival organiser:

'Yes, Gary Fisher will be at the coming Mountain Festival. He and Billy Savage will be introducing the Scottish premiere of Klunkerz on Wednesday 20th February. Make sure you book tickets soon to make sure you will be there.

The No Fuss biking workshop is a brilliant day out and highly recommended. We will also have a penny farthing event, the details of which will be released soon.'

There you are - you guys may have invented the mountain bike, but you didn't invent the penny farthing did you? That's what I call really retro.

I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring here. Of course, if I don't get my passport renewed in time, it will all be academic.

My understanding of local UK geography is equivalent to most retrobike posters' understanding of California geography. The distance from London to Fort Bill is equivalent to the distance from my home to San Diego, and that is, in the vernacular, a "fur piece."

Looking at the map (what an obvious thing to do), I see that Glasgow is the nearest big city to Ft. William that I might connect to from Heathrow, but still a hundred miles or the metric equivalent away. Two and a half hours by motorway. That would be a lot to ask of anyone, just for the pleasure of my company. What if I threw in a few dollars, since they are worth so little these days? (it may be worthless, but it's tough. You can use American money to patch a rip in a tire sidewall in an emergency. There's always that possibility.)

Anyone here from Glasgow?

Riding my recently featured Ritchey P-21 through town about an hour ago, who should drive past but Gary, so I flagged him down to thank him for the ticket, because he has been impossible to reach on his cellphone. He said he checked online and saw there was a seat on that flight, so he just snapped it up and figured he would tell me later.

He will be arriving by a different route, so we won't be traveling together.
