Seat post puzzle

Hello all. I'm in need of help with this seat post. I can't see how to separate it from the seat to which it is attached. It seems there is only one option - bend the thing open enough to remove the parts. Am I missing something obvious? It's titanium.

I'm using a Van Nicholas that looks pretty identical. You just have to open it up enough to be able to tap one of the cradles out then it comes apart. It was a faff last time I did it but I don't think I needed to lever it open.
If you have to, use a bit of wood (not a screwdriver!) - it'll only need opening a mm and the Ti will spring back no problem.

Loads of these were made in china in the 90s - kalloy, I think. Orange even had them braded as their own.

Loosen the clamp a little, the top one will tap out sideways.

Those are steel though while this one’s Ti. Not that it makes any difference as they can both handle being opened up a bit without causing damage.
I found with mine, removing the bolts allowed the clamp to be sprung open with out much force

If you want to be a bit more controlled and not need three hands for the job...remove the clamp bolt, reverse it, screw in through the top, with something flat in the clamp slot. This will jack the clamp open and hold it there while you push the barrel section out.

All the best,

That’s always the best way if you can. You might need to cut down an Allen key to fit in there!

As said above - looks very Airborne / Van Nicholas.

+1 a bit of a faff. Fiddled with one of these many years ago and seem to remember another trick was to revolve the saddle a quarter turn so the top barrel portion can raise higher in the open clamp and just slide out off the saddle rails enough.

🤔 Seem to remember originally it's a Moots design?
