Scrap dealers

Old School Grand Master
I've been round at my dad's today.

Some scrap merchant traveller type came up his drive and started walking into my mancave around the side of the house. He didn't knock on the front door or anything.

He got a shock when I came out, with Lucky going mental in the living room. Lucky's a very gentle dog, but he doesn't look it if you're outside the house and he doesn't know you.

The bloody cheek of it. I shall have to be more careful about keeping it all locked up in future, I don't want my bikes melted down for scrap.

  What a F**king nerve of the man. Be careful for at least a year. Keep em peeled

Is there not the option of improving security??

Ask your folks to keep an eye open for a flat-bed truck doing drive-bys. . . they'd scope the place for a few days before attempting anything I should think.

You'll know if it was pikies though, they'll tarmac your parents drive before leaving..

A relatively unlikely suggestion but he could have just been looking for scrap, genuinely... they're pootling round here a lot and never take anything without asking (despite old steel wheels and stuff being left out front)..

I was working in my garage with the door open the other day when I looks up to see some easten europe guy walking up my rather long drive way clocking my garage full of bikes he mumbles in broken english something about being lost so I showed him where the end of my propertly was. I am now double locking everything and the whole family is on the look out!!!!!!!!!

The price of scrap has gone up to about £200 a ton.......that means there will be a lot of thieving going on and not a lot of scrap cars knocking around.

Can't believe the way they do that, they almost seem to believe it's their right to take it.

A couple of years ago when scrap was high I had a load of stuff stolen, some was scrap but also my alloy wheels. What shocked me the most was that I took the steel bath out on the Sunday and on the Monday while at work they stole it along with a load of other stuff. It was round the back how did they know??!

I have a CCTV camera set up now

I have also read they are stealing catalytic converters from cars around here, 4 cars had theirs stolen in Chester Zoo car par

Battery operated angle grinders. 4x4's are an obvious target due to ground clearance

They've just been back. Walking around the side of the house into the mancave without knocking on the door again.

I'm convinced I would have been cleaned out had I not been here and if I leave it I will lose all of my stuff; frankly, I'd rather all of my friends here got it cheap than one of them made £50 selling my entire collection for scrap.

So I am leaving the bike collecting business. Does anyone want anything I have?
