I acquired a 1989 schwinn traveler from a friend the other day. 58cm / 24 inch frame I guess. Well used and almost all original - the rear wheel has a hi flange campy hub which can’t be original. Rides surprisingly well after a bit of tuning. Front hub is grinding, so need to open that up. Tempted to find a front wheel with a similar hi flange hub for looks. Not sure what to do with it - I’m thinking a retro mod build or possibly a single speed set up.

I have put a lot of miles on a Schwinn road bike of this vintage, but mine is a 1985 SuperSport model with a Columbus frame. I have a LeTour of the same vintage with the TrueTemper frame but have not built it up yet. These are great road bikes and I think they were brazed up in the USA, some of the last USA-made production road bikes available to the general population at affordable prices. Here is my SuperSport which has let me do some of the fastest riding I have done since I have been in my 60's, shod with a set of RevX wheels a friend gave me a few years back ;

And here is the True Temper "LeTour road frame I have, which is a 25" size, sitting on a scale so I could check it's weight, probably the same frame you have except for the model name;

And here is another frame I have, an '87 Supersport frame of Columbus tubing also sitting on the scale, looks to be ten ounces lighter. Also the 87 supersport fork seems to be much lighter and of a newer design than on the other two frames with a dropped style yoke;

So I have a sad update. I decided to sell the bike and donate the proceeds back to the charity I volunteer at. I sold it to my daughter's boyfriend for $50. He really liked it, but unfortunately let a friend ride it. The friend crashed the bike, bent the frame and then laughed and didn't offer to compensate the new owner. So the frame has been stripped and recycled and the parts await a new frame.
