Schrader or Presta ?

What's your preference, Schrader or Presta valves ?

Mine is Presta and that because the one has a nut that screws down the valve stem to hold it tight to the rim and seemingly avoids the 'egg' in the tyre by the valve. But didn't schrader valves used to have a similar arrangement, I seem to remember seeing way back before BITD.

Also the tyres seem to hold their pressure longer with Presta valved tubes fitted.

conti schrader tubes still have that threaded nut thing.

I use presta for no good reason that makes sense to mountain biking, but i do prefer the look of ano presta caps

Going back to Schrader for the sheer convenience of being able to stop at any PFS for a top up without rummaging around for the adapter!

Schraeder!! they are just simple, easy to use, and tough. Why anyone actually likes to use Presta valves is beyond me :?

don't even get me started on Woods valves

Agree. But i use Presta

I still prefer Schraeder off road where you are more likely to pick up a puncture. That crappy little sticky up bit always tries to bend on the Presta when I use a small pump in the middle of nowhere.

Most rims seem to be Presta only in more recent times. I always thought that Presta were better for high pressure road stuff but then, my Pace forks have a Schraeder valve? Maybe on the road the lighter Presta will have less of an impact on wheel balance?

I use both tbh.....Presta look better....schrader probably more practical, but my grandads shopper had them!.....

For me it only depends on the size of the hole. If that's big enough for a Shrader, I'll use that. If not, I'll use Presta.
