I hate to go mainstream on you but i think the tom tom one would take some beating. Its so simple my mum managed to use it without the instructions.

You'll get one for around a ton. We've got the one xl in the work van. Was about 40 or 50 quid more but has a bigger screen.

Top tip, price up on internet then buy from halfords- they price match and they are local if anything goes wrong

I've used a Tom Tom 1 for a few years, with no real problems.

Can do basic regular updates for free off their website, or if I choose to pay I can get 'extras' like speed camera locations etc.

The wife paid a lot for it, but that was when it first came out. Now you can pick them up for less than £100.

I would seriously recommend it, so easy to use!

Harmon kardon gps 500

pricey a couple of years ago but now reasonable 4 inch screen and media player as well, nice quality and does the job.

Ebuyers special F&H job, good reviews (but then doubt ebuyer would post up bad Review about their own product)

Then either try it as is or put a multitude of any other software you like on it for Educational reasons, een Tom Tom if iirc

Or if you have iPhone/Android/Symbian phones use them

Now that's an idea... 'iphone app'. Might do as a short term solution.

Cheers all for the input. Must say I'm slightly swaying towards a Garmin. Despite not being mentioned above the TomTom :?

I use CoPilot V8 on my HTC Hero.
It's available for Iphone I believe too... Cost about £28.

I have the Google Navigator as backup, but that's not available on iPhone.

Waze is out there and free, but relies on the public updating the roads... and they haven't got very far in the UK yet.
